Nepal Day 2... Sota... where is that? I'm headed to Sauraha.

And the Nepal discourse continues...

After a not-so-charming day in Kathmandu and a 34-hour travel induced coma in which we didn't even sleep IN the beds, we slept in our sleeping bags ON our beds, we were up early in the morning to make it to the bus "station" along side the street to catch our bus for a 5+ hour ride to Chitwan National Park. Needless to say, I was still a little tired of getting ripped off from the day before so when we got to the bus station, the price started at $20/person. We ended up at 350 Rupees/person ($5/person) because I refused to pay any more. Thank you, Philippines for teaching me my remedial bargaining skills. And, how is that Claire's pack looks twice as big as mine but mine is 10L bigger than hers?

Pictures of Kathmandu and the countryside while we spent most of our day on a bus.
Kathmandu sits in a bowl surrounded by mountains. We had to wind up then wind back down with a huge traffic jam on the way out of town.
Claire and I got the whole back seat to ourselves. When we got close to our destination, they asked where we were going but all I could hear from the guy was Sota... Sota... No... I came here from Sota.. Minnesota. I'm going to Sauraha, not Sota. Apparently I still wasn't down with the Nepali accent. We were headed to Sota.
Some boys along the way had made their own ping pong table.
We finally made it to "Sota" and found a cute hotel on the river called Hotel Holy Lodge. It was a cute little room with white bedding and white mosquito nets and lots of windows and screens. Sadly, I didn't get a picture of the nicest place we stayed.... which was still less than $4/person. There was a nice little area that overlooked the river towards the jungle/national park where there are rhinos and tigers and elephants and cool stuff like that.
