Belgium... The End

Finally the last post of pictures from Belgium. Only 2 months late. I guess it can't be helped now.

I LOVED Brugge. I definitely could have stayed in the city for more than one day. Despite the close proximity to Paris, Brugge was completely different and I loved it. We left the gothic and romanesque architechture for Flemmish country and you could tell. No other place we visited had the stepped architechture and buildings made from brick rather than stone or granite. Brugge (at least the old city) is also built on man-made canals. I'd never been on a canal ride and it was fantastic to see the city from the water. Brugge is also where we bough 90% of the chocolate we brought home. There are chocolateiers on nearly every corner and the chocolate is soooo smooth and creamy. One of my best friends here in MN works for Nestle but I'm sorry to say that they are soooo misguided. There is very few american chocolate (yes, I know Nestle is technically a Swiss company) is really good. Belgian chocolate.... heavenly!

Brussels was our second (well, and final) stop in Belgium. We spent time seeing the city and eating one of the local and tourist favorites - a belgian waffle. Remove all ideas from your mind of what you might know of a belgian waffle - light, fluffy, like a pancake with indentations to hold the syrup. Really, it was more dense, sweet, and could be topped with delicious items such as fresh strawberries, chocolate, bananas, honey, whipped cream... The only thing the same was the waffle dents. One belgian waffle spiked my blood sugar for a whole week but it was so worth it. Oh... and the final picture, one of the "must see" sites in Brussels - Manneken Pis. Still not sure why it is so famous, but we made sure we treked through the streets of Brussels to see it.

So beautiful. How do they keep the water out of the buildings along the canals? It seems like water would seep in and there would be mold and mildew.
