Nickles and Dimes... those shiny things add up

On my return trip to the states from Barbados I brilliantly left my cell phone and charger in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Grand Hyatt hotel that we stayed at. Joe was kind enough to coordinate the shipping of my phone back to me since I couldn't call the Grand Hyatt of my own accord. To cause the least disruption in whatever minimal social life I do have here in Minnesota, we had them overnight the phone. I was thinking it should have been about $25-$35. Well, today I got the invoice from FedEx and apparently I was wrong. Like everyone else, they are in the business of nickle and dimeing poor, helpless souls like me.

Here's a breakdown of the fees they charged for my overnight shipping:

Transportation charges - $32.70
Courier Pickup Charge - $4.00 (they are a delivery service! Do they really charge for pick ups?)
Fuel Surcharge - $9.91 (shouldn't this be built into the price?)
Declared Value Charge - $1.80 (what???)

Grand Total - $48.41

However, on an end note, I will state that it was worth it even though I felt nickled and dimed and I am extremely grateful to have my phone back. And I am the girl that held out till 4 years ago to get a cell phone.
