Adventures in Stillwater

I had some extra time yesterday between going to the temple and heading out to the Star Wars exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota and I was already waaaay out on the east side of the Twin Cities so drove an extra 15 min to the MN/WI border to a small town called Stillwater. It's a quaint old town that mostly has "tourist" written all over it, but it was fun to wander around for an hour or so. Much to my dismay, the bridge at Stillwater to get to WI was closed!!! I was foiled in my goal to at least visit WI on this trip. Another weekend adventure will have to take me into Wisconsin.

The Minnesota Zephyr. Doesn't this kind of look like Thomas the Tank Engine? (isn't that the name of the little blue train that every kid loves?)
See good old Wisconsin across the St. Croix river. Unfortunately I couldn't get there, but then again, I didn't try bribing anyone in a boat to take me across either.
Some of the old historic buildings in town. They were kind of fun.

Some random shots... River boat ride anyone? In 4th grade we took a sternwheeler ride on the Willamette River as a celebration before they shut down Campus Elementary School (CES is the best, MES is a mess, Henry Hill is a pill, IES is a pest -- we were great kids weren't we? They trained us up right to taunt kids in other schools from our early days). Anyways, I've always wanted to go on another sternwheeler ride. We also have the first penitentiary in MN, me hanging out on the steps (just to prove I was actually there), and then the most random of all... proof that they use ugly rocks to landscape in places other than Arizona!
