An Ode to Strawberries

Oh, strawberries, how I love you, let me count the ways...

You're fun to pick, even when the mosquitoes are attacking your pickers, because you fill up my belly and are the best dinner ever. Carrie and Claire might have been there to pick into their basket, but I know of your deliciousness in the field so I fill up my belly instead. You make a fun and colorful fruit in the basket, headed to your destiny of making others happy, including Carrie's delicious strawberry jam... yum!
And you partner so well with Rhubarb. It's like a match made in heaven... topped with a fluffy cloud of vanilla ice cream.

I can't believe you picked your berries with stems on!

As a former strawberry picking champion (you don't believe me - ask Mom, I broke field records day after back breaking day) I would never pick my berries with stems on - They wouldn't pay me for them.

I know... I can't compete with a picking champ. Good thing we weren't picking for money. Most of the berries in the field were rotting from all the rain. But, they do keep longer in the fridge with the tops on so if I was going to pay for them, I wanted them to last longer than 2 days.
