Relief in the Polochic

And now... back to our regularly scheduled Polochic posts. Busy day... actually busy week... and month, so I only have time for one picture today. Still more to come. Oh so much more. So, back to the Polochic. Somehow I miraculously was able to only use the public restrooms once in the Polochic. I know! I'm not sure how I did it. Mostly because in the course of manual labor we sweat all the liquid out of us all day. Well, and I didn't get sick till I left Tikal and by then we had the Polochic far behind us. Well, and one day I really did need to go because I was working in the clinic all day and my name wasn't Man-u-el, but Kristin and I didn't want to brave the Sajonte toilet next to the soccer field which of course didn't have any door so we Jungle Jane'd our way down the side of the mountain on what we lovingly called Tyler's trail to a secluded spot.

So, here it is.... my one public toilet. This comes to you courtesy of Los Limones and may be one of the nicer public toilets that I saw. Two cement vaults (you can't see the second cement vault behind me), 4 walls (sans door), and a roof. Not sure why they would have two side by side because, let's be honest, even though there isn't a door, I still wouldn't be sharing that time with anyone else.

Advice for the Day:
I don't care where you are traveling, in the states or in a 3rd world country, always carry with you two VERY important items - a little bit of TP and a small bottle of hand sanitizer. Because let's be honest, even in the states there are way too many times I've gone into a restroom only to find out that there isn't any TP left and then you have to ask for the lady next to you to hand you some under the stall. And even more often they don't have soap. Just as a side note - Bath and Body Works Midnight Pomegranate is the BEST smelling hand sanitizer. EVER. Just ask every guy that could smell it in the Polochic every time I put it on to clean my hands. One guy could even name the scent. Ok, that was scary.
