I'll be honest (not that I'm not always honest on this blog), every time I've been through Guatemala, I've always been jealous of the locals that get to ride in the back of the
cattle trucks. The last trip I think we may have caught something other than a bus or mini-van when we border hopped into Honduras for a night, but since the recollection is so vague, I won't count it. Well, I finally got my chance to ride in the back of a cattle truck- every day for 6 days (well, minus one day I went to Salac and we rode 1 hour each way in the back of a small Chevy or something - now THAT was an interesting ride). And, I LOVED IT! There were several cattle trucks taking various people to various sites, but when we were ready to load whatever truck I was headed out on, I generally liked to get in first because you could get a decent spot next to the side and not be crammed in the middle with no way to hold on and no way to look out. We had a few minor injuries related to the cattle trucks, mostly from people slipping on water or mud or a combination of both trying to get in or out that resulted in gashes on the shins and bruises. But, all in all, it was a fantastic ride!
Advice for the Day
When faced with the possibility of getting lice, don't bother with shaving ALL your hair off, just go with the Mohawk.
