This weekend felt like an odd version of Survivor - Minneapolis YSA Conference style. However, I am proud to say that I survived and am still around to tell the tale. Here's a brief rundown of what went down:Friday night - taco salad bar for dinner (actually very delicious since I was starving!), a talk from the St. Paul Stake President, and then some giant game of clue where no one died since they couldn't have a death in a church game... ummm yeah... I don't know... I skipped that one. Instead, I went home and baked cookies for my Relief Society lesson on Sunday. Somehow I think it was a better use of my time.
Saturday - I slept in, skipped the bagel breakfast they were offering as well as the first round of classes (I was tired! Baking cookies is a tough job!) but I did make it for the second round of classes because I signed up for a Salsa Dancing class. That was fun but not nearly enough time to learn anything. Finally, the last class before lunch was on budgeting. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm not a budgeter. I can save, save, save... but actually trying to write down a budget is beyond me. Maybe one day I'll learn this valuable skill. Lunch - overcooked burgers and chips. However, after lunch we had a fantastic service project. Well, at least I liked it. They did some humanitarian thing inside for people who didn't want to get dirty and then the rest of us headed outside to do some landscaping for the church building. I had a great time
mulching for an hour our so and met some great people in the process. I love being outside even if... well probably especially if it means I will get dirty. The rest of the day they had free time and stuff like that so Jen and I had our own conference that was fantastic! We went to her place, cleaned up and changed, chatted for a while, then drove to St. Paul and wandered around the Capitol building, St. Paul Cathedral, a war memorial, and then found a fantastic little Kurdish restaurant for dinner. Afterwards we met back up with everyone for a paddle boat ride on the Mississippi! That was probably the highlight of the weekend. We went south from St. Paul to the first lock, turned around and went back up to the city and through the city some. The weather was beautiful and the view of the city with the lights from the river was amazing.
