When I signed up for working in Minnesota I didn't realize that I was also signing up for moving into Tornado land! Who knew (unless you have lived here or know people who live here) that Minnesota gets tornadoes too?!? I thought that was reserved for places like Kansas. Last Sunday was my first foray into this new experience. A tornado touched down NE of the Twin Cities. I live NW of the Twin Cities so was in the still in the severe weather. Luckily all I had to experience was a lot of rain. The storm moved in fast and moved out fast. Other people I know north of me had hail the size of golf balls. In my true Sunday afternoon fashion, I took a walk to explore a path I had seen while on another walk. I was a little disappointed in the path (I thought it was going into a stand of trees, which it did.... for about 40 feet, and then it ended up in a neighborhood. Very disappointing.) I was about 3/4 mile from my apartment when it started to sprinkle and the clouds to the NW were moving in swiftly. I thought I was pretty safe since behind me to the South it was blue skies. By the time I hit 1/2 mile, the thunder started to roll and I picked up the pace. I was running by the time I got home and it was pouring and I was drenched. I turned on the TV to watch the severe weather warnings and got my things together just in case I had to evacuate to the garage (which is below ground). The tornado entirely missed me by a ways so I shouldn't have been so worried. But it was my first tornado (that I new about... there was one in SLC when I was there).... I have the right to be a little worried.
